Royal Caribbean - Independence of the Seas - Our REVIEW

We recently set sail on a 3-day Bahamian cruise aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Independence of the Seas departing from Port Canaveral, Florida.  Our review is for this specific cruise only. Our boarding time was scheduled for 11:00am on embarkation day so we decided to head down to Florida a day early to avoid missing our cruise.  We stayed at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Titusville, Florida which is about 20-30min from Port Canaveral.  It made for an easy commute to Port Canaveral. Fun Fact: Embarkation is the process of loading a passenger ship    On the morning of our cruise, we left our hotel at 10:00am which turned out to be the perfect time to get us to the boarding station at 11:00am.  As we crossed the Martin Andersen Beachline Expressway, our excitement level went through the roof at seeing the various cruise ships in port.      Our terminal was Terminal 1, which is Royal's main terminal at Port Canaveral.  The signage at the port was good at getting us to the right

Disney In A Day...Magic Kingdom

We recently visited Magic Kingdom park at the Walt Disney World Resort and it was amazing!  What's the big deal?  We did it in a day.

We often get asked about how many park days are needed to see and do everything Walt Disney World parks have to offer.  In an effort to provide an answer, we decided to take a day trip to Magic Kingdom park and see just how much we could fit in one day.

Our day began at 7:30am with breakfast at the Port Orleans - Riverside resort, our hotel for the weekend.  From there we boarded the bus and headed to Magic Kingdom.  After going through security and scanning our bands to enter the park we were fifteen minutes away from rope drop scheduled for 9:00am.

First up, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.  Catching this popular ride first thing saved us a Fast Pass and the 240 minute wait this ride got up to throughout the day.  Next, we headed to Space Mountain, another popular ride, and had minimal wait since we were still within the first 30 minutes of opening.  We then headed over to Dumbo the Flying Elephant and The Barnstormer.  Then we were on to Under the Sea Journey of the Little Mermaid, the Prince Charming Regal Carousel, and even stopped to see the Sword in the Stone show.  We ended our visit to Fantasyland and Tomorrowland with Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor before heading to the other lands.  It was unfortunate that Tommrowland Speedway was closed.  We also grabbed a few snacks, got lunch at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe, and even got a behind-the-scenes tours of Pete's Silly Side Show where we had an exclusive character meet-n-greet and free treats to enjoy.

And with that, we were on to Adventureland and the Swiss Family Treehouse.  This is where our Fast Passes came into play since we were pushing 1:00pm.  We had Fast Passes for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain.  We found ourselves waiting in line for Pirates of the Caribbean, but walked right in on Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room and The Hall of Presidents.  We also took some time to visit Tom Sawyer Island.  We grabbed dinner at Casey's Corner and then found our spot for Happily Ever After...we were pushing 8:00pm by this time.

We obviously skipped a few attractions, but we had a goal to ride all the heavy hitters and our personal favorites.  We also stuck our heads in a few shops along the way to get out of the heat.

After Happily Ever After, we found we were exhausted and decided to call it a night.  With so many people leaving the park at this time, it would have been easy to fit a few more rides in, but we were content with our progress.

So, is it possible to do Magic Kingdom in a day?  Yes.  But not only did we miss a few attractions, we also missed the opportunity to stroll around and see the sights.  So we would recommend at least two days in this park in order to not be rushed.  Two days would give you 6 Fast Passes in order to reserve your spot at the most popular attractions.  We would also recommend using one of those days to view Happily Ever After and the other to ride rides with little to no wait during the fireworks show.  And if you can stay until park closing, do so.  Others will be leaving after fireworks and you may have the opportunity to fit in a few more rides.  A two day visit will allow you to take your time more than a single day and you may be able to manage expectations a little more with more flexibility.
