Royal Caribbean - Independence of the Seas - Our REVIEW

We recently set sail on a 3-day Bahamian cruise aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Independence of the Seas departing from Port Canaveral, Florida.  Our review is for this specific cruise only. Our boarding time was scheduled for 11:00am on embarkation day so we decided to head down to Florida a day early to avoid missing our cruise.  We stayed at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Titusville, Florida which is about 20-30min from Port Canaveral.  It made for an easy commute to Port Canaveral. Fun Fact: Embarkation is the process of loading a passenger ship    On the morning of our cruise, we left our hotel at 10:00am which turned out to be the perfect time to get us to the boarding station at 11:00am.  As we crossed the Martin Andersen Beachline Expressway, our excitement level went through the roof at seeing the various cruise ships in port.      Our terminal was Terminal 1, which is Royal's main terminal at Port Canaveral.  The signage at the ...

Disney Transportation...the pros and cons

Whenever we go to the Walt Disney World Resort, part of our experience is to ride Disney transportation.  Whether it's the buses, trams, monorails, or boats, it is all part of the experience for us.

Having said that, what are the pros and cons to Disney transportation?

PROS
  • Pretty reliable schedule
Monorails, trams, and boats pretty much run on a reliable schedule throughout the day.  Buses typically run every 20 minutes, but can be delayed because of traffic or other reasons.
  • You don't have to plan out a route to your destination
  • Buses have special entrances which get you dropped closer to, if not right at, the park entrances
  • With new roads and special bus lanes, it makes for a more direct, speedy trip
  • The monorail is not only a cool ride to experience, it is also very efficient.  Each train hold about 365 people and transports around 150,000 passengers a day between the Magic Kingdom and Epcot
  • The boats are also a pleasant way to get around.  If you're staying at a resort with a boat dock or even if you're at the Transportation and Ticket Center, the boats tend to have a lot more room
  • Saves gas
CONS
  • You're on Disney's schedule
There can be delays due to traffic and other reasons.
  • You may have to leave earlier than expected to get where you want to go on time
  • Depending on the season you visit, space tends to fill up quick on buses
  • Depending on the resort you're staying at, the time required to "make the rounds" could add to your commute as well as make the buses more crowded
  • Boats are slower than other means of transportation
  • At the end of the day (i.e. at park closing) Disney transportation usage spikes causing you to wait in line.

Having said all of that, if you plan out your daily transportation you can avoid and be prepared for anything that comes up.  We still prefer Disney transportation versus our own car because we're on vacation and we want others to worry about driving...not us.
