Royal Caribbean - Independence of the Seas - Our REVIEW

We recently set sail on a 3-day Bahamian cruise aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Independence of the Seas departing from Port Canaveral, Florida.  Our review is for this specific cruise only. Our boarding time was scheduled for 11:00am on embarkation day so we decided to head down to Florida a day early to avoid missing our cruise.  We stayed at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Titusville, Florida which is about 20-30min from Port Canaveral.  It made for an easy commute to Port Canaveral. Fun Fact: Embarkation is the process of loading a passenger ship    On the morning of our cruise, we left our hotel at 10:00am which turned out to be the perfect time to get us to the boarding station at 11:00am.  As we crossed the Martin Andersen Beachline Expressway, our excitement level went through the roof at seeing the various cruise ships in port.      Our terminal was Terminal 1, which is Royal's main terminal at Port Canaveral.  The signage at the port was good at getting us to the right

Disney Dining Plans...Which One Should I Pick?

When booking your next Walt Disney World vacation, you will see, or your travel agent will tell you, about the various Disney Dining Plans available to you.  While there are only 3 to choose from, it is still quiet confusing as to which one is right for you and your family.

Below, we break down the various components of each dining plan and give you our best advice based on our experience.

Disney Quick Service Dining Plan

$48.19 per adult per night  $20.88 per child per night (ages 3-9)
Includes: 2 quick service meals & 2 snacks per person per night of your stay as well as a resort refillable drink mug for each person.

This is the plan for the family on the go.  If your major focus is on rides, rides, and rides, this plan will allow you eat quickly and get back to it.  Using snack credits for breakfast and the quick service credits for lunch and dinner, you'll remain on the go and able to fit more rides in.  Quick Service location do tend to get busy during the normal eating times of breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  So be flexible and either eat early or late to avoid the crowds.  And with these restaurants you can eat on the go.  Eating while walking to your next destination will save you time.

Disney Dining Plan

$69.35 per adult per night  $24.95 per child per night (ages 3-9)
Includes:  1 table service meal, 1 quick service meal, and 2 snacks per person per night of your stay as well as a resort refillable drink mug for each person.

In our opinion, this is the perfect plan for average families.  You can use a snack credit for breakfast, a quick service credit for lunch and then enjoy a table service meal for dinner where you can relax after a long day in the parks.  For our next trip, my family will be using this meal plan.  This plan lets you enjoy your day by not having everything planned out while still letting you eat well.  And with the table service credit, you can even enjoy those sought after table service restaurants like Chef Mickey and Cinderella's Royal Table.

Disney Deluxe Dining Plan

$106.68 per adult per night  $38.75 per child per night (ages 3-9)
Includes:  3 meals (table or quick service) & 2 snacks per person per night of your stay as well as a resort refillable drink mug for each person.

This is the plan our family chose for our last trip.  We planned to eat at all of the "big", hard to get restaurants, which are coincidentally all table service restaurants.  That's the benefit of this plan...all of your meals can be table service.  And we did just that, we got all of the hard to get reservations and ate well.  So what's the downside?  Well...our restaurant reservations ruled our vacation.  Everything we did and everywhere we went was determined by our reservations.  So it felt like our trip had no spontaneity which is something we both like and wanted.  However, all of your meals don't have to be table service meals, but anything less could be considered a waste of money which means you should be looking at one of the other dining plans.  As far as the meals go, like I said above, we ate well.  We never went hungry and rarely could we finish our plates.  And when you add in the snack credits, it felt like we were trying to use all of our credits rather than worrying if we would have enough to finish the trip.
