Royal Caribbean - Independence of the Seas - Our REVIEW

We recently set sail on a 3-day Bahamian cruise aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Independence of the Seas departing from Port Canaveral, Florida.  Our review is for this specific cruise only. Our boarding time was scheduled for 11:00am on embarkation day so we decided to head down to Florida a day early to avoid missing our cruise.  We stayed at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Titusville, Florida which is about 20-30min from Port Canaveral.  It made for an easy commute to Port Canaveral. Fun Fact: Embarkation is the process of loading a passenger ship    On the morning of our cruise, we left our hotel at 10:00am which turned out to be the perfect time to get us to the boarding station at 11:00am.  As we crossed the Martin Andersen Beachline Expressway, our excitement level went through the roof at seeing the various cruise ships in port.      Our terminal was Terminal 1, which is Royal's main terminal at Port Canaveral.  The signage at the ...

Stroller Rentals...good idea or bad idea?

Most everyone traveling with small children already own a stroller.  So let's discuss the pros and cons of carrying around your stroller versus renting one from Disney...

Families traveling with one kid can easily transport the classic umbrella stroller with little to no problems.  This is handy since Disney requires all strollers be folded and carried when riding resort transportation to include buses, monorails, trains, and trams.  Our experience is that ferry boats allow kids to remain in strollers, but this is subject to change based on the crowd levels of the boat.  Having a larger stroller (i.e. two seater, jogging stroller, or basically any stroller costing more than $50) can make this requirement somewhat of a task each time you are boarding resort transportation.  It requires extra planning and the ability to discard other's looks and snippy comments.

Through personal experience, we have found it far more easier to leave the stroller in the hotel room and rent a Disney stroller when you hit the parks.  It is an added cost ($13-$31 daily), but the stress it takes off your back is well worth it.  You simply visit the stroller rental station at the front of each park and purchase your rental.  And if you have purchased a "length-of-stay" rental, the process is even easier.  Simply bypass the regular line and go directly to the stroller area, show your receipt, and you're on your way.

And in the event your stroller gets misplaced or stolen, having a Disney stroller ensures you can always go back and show your receipt again and get another one.  However, having your stroller taken, whether it belongs to you or Disney, can be devastating if you leave personal items in it.  So make sure your only leave items in your stroller that you're willing to do without.

So our advice is to budget for stroller rentals when you visit the parks.  It will make for a less stressful day all around.
