Royal Caribbean - Independence of the Seas - Our REVIEW

We recently set sail on a 3-day Bahamian cruise aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Independence of the Seas departing from Port Canaveral, Florida.  Our review is for this specific cruise only. Our boarding time was scheduled for 11:00am on embarkation day so we decided to head down to Florida a day early to avoid missing our cruise.  We stayed at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Titusville, Florida which is about 20-30min from Port Canaveral.  It made for an easy commute to Port Canaveral. Fun Fact: Embarkation is the process of loading a passenger ship    On the morning of our cruise, we left our hotel at 10:00am which turned out to be the perfect time to get us to the boarding station at 11:00am.  As we crossed the Martin Andersen Beachline Expressway, our excitement level went through the roof at seeing the various cruise ships in port.      Our terminal was Terminal 1, which is Royal's main terminal at Port Canaveral.  The signage at the port was good at getting us to the right

The Disney Visa Card

Before you immediately ignore this, hear me out.  This could be a way to save on your trip.

The Disney Premier Visa Card by Chase is a way to save money on your trip.  After your first purchase you get a statement credit of $100.  And when using the card to make payments on your trip you earn 2% back in statement credits.  Just cash those statement credits in toward Disney gift cards to use on your trip.

And if you pay off the card each month, you pay NO interest.

Take a look at the example below:

1.)  Book your Walt Disney World vacation (i.e. resort, dining, tickets, memory maker).  Let's throw a price $2,000 out there for easy math.
2.)  Disney requires you to put down a $200 deposit.
3.)  Then you make $150 payments over the next 12 months to pay off the remaining balance of your trip.

                  Without     Savings
                  the Card    with the Card
Price of Trip     $2,000
Down Payment      $200        $100
Payment #1        $150        $3
Payment #2        $150        $3
Payment #3        $150        $3
Payment #4        $150        $3
Payment #5        $150        $3
Payment #6        $150        $3
Payment #7        $150        $3
Payment #8        $150        $3
Payment #9        $150        $3
Payment #10       $150        $3
Payment #11       $150        $3
Payment #12       $150        $3
TOTAL             $2,000      $136
TOTAL W/CARD      $1,864

And you can continue the savings while on your trip by using the card as your method of payment when purchasing souvenirs and other things.  Just save your spending money as normal, but use the card to pay for your purchases.  Then take the saved money and pay off the card.  This method allows you to get the statement credits without paying the interest.  Note:  For every $1,000 you spend, you could earn up to $20 in statement credits which can be transferred to a gift card for spending while on your vacation.

Also use it for gas, groceries, and eating out before your trip to earn even more.

While the savings may seem minimal, it's still savings.
